Methow At Home Legacy Project: Living Wisdom of Methow Valley Elders

“The goal of this project is to preserve the legacy of Methow Valley elders, while connecting their stories to younger generations and growing elders’ storytelling skills. We want the stories of these elders to be recorded for their loved ones, and to be seen by the greater Methow Valley community, because we believe that elders have important stories to tell and lives worth engaging with and learning from. Communities thrive when the wisdom and experiences of all of their members are valued; by contrast, groups that marginalize their elders lose a vital network of human connection.”

The Methow At Home Legacy project recognizes the important role our older neighbors play in fostering connection and engagement and the collective legacy that creates a strong and resilient Methow Valley community.

The power of community storytelling lies not only in the stories created – but also in the process of their creation. Storytelling itself has a unique power to engage and is an essential activity by which a strong community grows.

These storytelling videos are part of our ongoing Legacy Project, which aims to record and evoke the rich stories of our community’s elders.

“The forest service took me in a helicopter to fly over the Methow Valley—mid-June, mountains were full of snow—and I was, by then, totally smitten.

And in a way, the rest is history.”
